The About Page of Matt

Matthew Carlson (subsequently referred to as “I”) spent his childhood building forts in the woods and playing late night games of tag in a small town in Pennsylvania. I spent a few years in Columbus, Ohio before moving to Peoria, Illinois where I attended high school and college.

I returned to Columbus after graduation and lived on my own in a one-bedroom apartment across from a beautiful park. I worked in publication design during the day and spent my nights in the local music scene (listening, not playing).

In 2000, I packed my bags and moved to Chicago with my future wife, Dawn (whom I met in the local music scene). We spent two amazing years there among great friends, great food and great public transportation. In 2001, our first son, Jacob, was born and a year later we were back in Columbus.

Fast forward a few years and I've been married for over five seven years, have two wonderful sons (Miles was born in 2005), and still live in Columbus where I spend too much time on the computer and not enough time in the local music scene.

Professionally

I am a senior web and user interface designer for OCLC, a global non-profit library service and research organization that provides online cataloging, reference, resource sharing, library management and Web services to 60,000 libraries in 112 countries and territories. I work with researchers, designers, usability professionals and developers to help create great user experiences on the web.

In the past I have held other grand titles including—but not limited to—graphic designer, art director, creative director, freelancer, newspaper boy and grocery bagger.

There doesn't seem to be much time these days to build forts in the woods, so ofmatt.com is my fort on the web. It's my place to capture bits of the internet that I find interesting and play around with whatever latest trend or technology has my fancy.

ofmatt.com is designed and coded using Photoshop, Textmate, Transmit and Coda. The site is powered by Tumblr with a little extra support supplied by (mt) Media Temple. Social media icons courtesy of Komodo Media, Rogie King.
